Haiku

2/27
Grey morning cloak,
damp green meadow mantle spayed
Heaven with in me.

Last Friday

Tree trimming early in the day, palm fronds fall and a chipper comes in to make mulch of them. After a brief peek at the turtle pools we leave here for Anini Beach. We observe fishermen there.

We spend long luxurious hours there, as its pleasant today. I find many ys! Do a little yoga and call Dad. Pilgrim retrieves sticks. Dan wades and rests up for date night!

At 2 we roll up to the Fish Market for a ahi wrap which we shareonce we get home. It's 'eat it up' day and we add a sushi and salad.
We stroll thegrounds here viewing units from the outside in as we consider next years application.
We shower and dress for the slackkey   concert at 4:00. Pilgrim has been a little 'punk' all day snd seeing Doug really perks him up
Pilgrim loves his 'communion time with the dog whispere!
After the show i take Pilgrim to pee and a man asks Dan if i am his daughter! What?!
Dan gas brought cocktails in the cooler, so we sit at sundown near the taro patch, hanalei mts closkedin fog and sip gin and scotch. Dinner at Bar ACuda awaits!
The bread abd sweet salty butter have never tasted so fragrant and floury.
I taste thr lentils and askgor the radicchio salD with pecans, gorgonzols arugula and balsamic. It pairs perfectly with the Mouverde. We share a few bites of the pizza ( the original inspiration for coming) and Dan talksme into the Roasted hanalei banana ice cream with salted caramel sauce and a peanut butter cookie. Best thing i've eaten all year!
Home to watch Glory.

That poem!
Poem (The spirit likes to dress up...) by Mary Oliver
The spirit
likes to dress up like this:
ten fingers,
ten toes,

shoulders, and all the rest
at night
in the black branches,
in the morning

in the blue branches
of the world.
It could float, of course,
but would rather

plumb rough matter.
Airy and shapeless thing,
it needs
the metaphor of the body,

lime and appetite,
the oceanic fluids;
it needs the body's world,
instinct

and imagination
and the dark hug of time,
sweetness
and tangibility,

to be understood,
to be more than pure light
that burns
where no one is --

so it enters us --
in the morning
shines from brute comfort
like a stitch of lightning;

and at night
lights up the deep and wondrous
drownings of the body
like a star.

3rd Tuesday

I am moved by the beauty and contentment of the trees outside my room where i breathe each morning to provide Breath for me! Yet no haiku comes.

Green leafy pillar
Breathe into me your goodness
Ancient source of life
We show Ron this last labdscape of Hanalei Valley
Ron is leaving today. We will get him to Lihue to check in at 12:00 noon.
Therefore the morning is for packing. After whale watching and breakfast.
Ron is dispatched and i let Mike and Nancy know we are close. We have a luncheon date at Brennekes.
Beers and fish sandwiches. Then we drive home.
I feel so tired, i couldn't even consider shopping with Nancy for more than a minute.
At home we sat on the windy bluff and Dsns hat blew off, over the cliff!
He gingerly retrieved it.
We ate some pistachio pupus and then the half sandwich from lunch. Tonight we saw a Peter Sellars movie that was amusing about Chauncey Gardener . The drama of Kramer vs Kramer was too much for me!
One more sunset;)
With five days remaining i am pondering:
Why are we here?
How to manifest the remaining time
Painting
Breathing meditations
Fruit
I am really too tired today to think about tomorrow, although it seems pressing sonehow.
Much Love!

3rd Monday

Dan makes our coffee!
Each day begins quietly on the ocean facing lanai. Ole is already there on the left when Pilgrim and I emerge.
And coffee is ready. We sit in peace until Dan arises. Today i poach eggs and reheat the bacon wrapped asparagi. Each day we migrate to the adirondaks to watch;) whales
Today we are spending the morning st Hanalei Bay near Pine Trees. There are clouds overhead and it is still 80 something. . .

I painted this many years ago!

Pilgrim does his best to keep me out of the surf

I call Dad. The reception here is great!
We take a stroll on the pier and buy four fish tacos at $5.00 each to bring home.

Always a good place  for bikini watching.
Dan, Ron and I drive to Hanalei to try on a few dresses, i don't find one to buy: too short, too small, too big;-/
Showering we have a dinner date at Bar A Cuda with Mike and Nancy. Dinner is superb! I enjoy a Zinfandel and then the
This is Ron's last night with us so we stay up late laughing out doors, listening to the quiet. Lots of Sports and reminiscing about The Oregonian days.
Sleep well! I have been using lavendar essential oil to sleep and it has been great!

3rd Sunday

Lovely morning sunrise.
We ready for church. Since Ron doesn't care to go, we take the car to HawIian Church rather than driving into Lihue.

A couple from Hermiston introduced themselves and he asked for prayers for his wife who was loosing her sight.
I told them about GuideDogs for the Blind.
We exchanged Ron's T-shirt at Foodland.
I want to make some bacon wrapped asparagus for the Oscar party tomight at 7:30. We find what we need! On sale;)

Lunch was at The Hanalei Dolphin. I enjoyed the salad with blue cheese! The guys ordered salads too but got the sandwiches. Dan was not happy:-/

While watching the Red Carpet pre show, we realized the real deal started at 7:30, so Dan took me to Yoga with Maxine. And picked me up.
We ate Dan's Killer Guacamole, pistachio Pomegranate mix, Ron's popcorn
Cheve and crackers, and the asparagi💚
Best movie Birdman
Best actress Julianne Moore
Best actor Eddie Redmayne.
Then we went to bed.

Maxine's Rest Deeply

"Act as if everyone you meet has a broken heart."
Heart opening over bolster
Side laying over 2 bolsters
Forward fold
Baradvajasanas Twist with blocks
Sarvangasana on ropes
( there was no hesitation! Like with Carrie.
A blanket skirt, secured with a belt, a rope over the head and settled around the hips , walking the feet up the wall. And extending a leg at a time. Such heat! A heavy mandible, fear. Then there was Pilgrim's sweet long snoit;))

Ron made bloody mary's for breakfast. I made eggs in a hole.

Then we drove to the Farmers Market and really stocked up. Tonight we make Vodka sauce for dinner, i brought the pasta:)

All I 'needed' was the pineapple guava kombucha.., yum!
Then we returned to the Lighthouse.
We ate leftovers at home and went to the pool for a swim! This cute suit was sitting next to me on the lady from Virginia:)

After a swim we settle on the bluff to watch the sky. So buttermilky;)

2nd Friday

We love the bananas here!
Each morning we dole them out and sliver a wedge of pineapple. The men ate a bagel today and i finished up the granola i made.
Then we hit the road. It was fairly cool and we drove to Kapaa by way of Moloaa Beach.

We passed a fruit stand where we stopped for these:  3@$1.00.

Ron was looking for a red dirt tshirt which he found. And a matching cap;)

We called Mike and Nancy earlier and will meet them for lunch at 2:00 at The Hanalei Gourmet and take them to The Slack Key concert.
Mike and I talked about a birds song we both heard yesterday. It could be a shama bird.

It's always such fun to see them! Such gorgeous people; lively in Spirit and conversation! We all order the marlin fish sandwich and Ron gets the fish and chips. Nancy commissipns me to paint Tulips. And asks if I'd be comfortable coming to a party at thier home. I DO!
The concert was hilarious;) Doug was really funny. It went long:) kisses goodnight. . . Mike and Nacy move South tomorrow. We promise to meet up soon. Sunday perhaps.
Home to grill steak and fish. I compose a salad with feta celery and lentils..
Then we watch The Descendents. Up a little later than usual.

Yoga Poem read by Katie

No one but me by the fire,
my hands burning
red in the palms while
the night wind carries
everything away outside.

All this petty worry
while the great cloak
of the sky grows dark
and intense
round every living thing.

What is precious
inside us does not
care to be known
by the mind
in ways that diminish
its presence.

What we strive for
in perfection
is not what turns us
into the lit angel
we desire,

what disturbs
and then nourishes
has everything
we need.

What we hate
in ourselves
is what we cannot know
in ourselves but
what is true to the pattern
does not need
to be explained.

Inside everyone
is a great shout of joy
waiting to be born.

Even with the summer
so far off
I feel it grown in me
now and ready
to arrive in the world.

All those years
listening to those
who had
nothing to say.

All those years
forgetting
how everything
has its own voice
to make
itself heard.

All those years
forgetting
how easily
you can belong
to everything
simply by listening.

And the slow
difficulty
of remembering
how everything
is born from
an opposite
and miraculous
otherness.
Silence and winter
has led me to that
otherness.

So let this winter
of listening
be enough
for the new life
I must call my own.

(The House of Belonging)

2nd Thursday

Hot morning in Princeville, i make poached eggs in salsa to top off Dan and Ron's polenta.
We head to the cliffs where i do my yoga in the sun and the boys wAtch whales.
Todays plan invludes beach time at Anini

Where I sport my coral suit.
Pilgrim swims for the first time! I wish i had been holding my camera. All four paws with toes spread, dog paddling:) his smiled said,"look! Im walking on air!"
Then home to shower and get a bite before heading to The Lighthouse and

onto the Kiluea Fish Market for wraps. Today i choose the spicy tofu. Not only is our order misplaced but they are out of ahi. They had ono instead.

We eat at home savoring the juicy succulence with a gin and tonic.
We make a quick grocery run and Ron sits with. Pilgrim.
Dan naps until its time to take me to yoga.
Carrie is the teacher. Six ladies all in a row facing the windows. I feel like the odd ball. I cant hear or see and one pose Sirsana was hanging from ropes at the wall for five minutes. There was an option for heart opening over a bolster and I chose that.
The only words i think i heRd were "winter of listening".
The Teacher ignored me for the most part and another student helped me return my props.
Meanwhile the boys 'painted the town red!' They spent some time at the Tahiti Nui bar jammering sports with the locals.
Theyfetched us on time.
Lasagne and a good Malbec were dinner.
A Man and For All Seasons was playing on TCM. It featured Sir Thomas More giving his life for a cause.
I. Exclaimed,"Mad Dogs and Englishmen!
Good night to all:)

We share beer at a beach near Yhe Mediterranean Gourmet.

And enjoy a good lunch . The wraps are hard to wrsp but yummy. Dan loves the lamb burger.
At home we rest and take one more outing to the St. Regis. It's so beautiful for a cocktail and people watching.

And it's home to grill the hebi and nibble on sushi. I make a salad while the guys grill;)

And we try to watch The Descendents on the VCR but no, we see The Hustler instead.
Jerome Kersey dies this evening! Cause unknown.

2nd Monday

We have breakfast on the lanai and a trip to the adirondacks.

Dan packs us up. We swing by barA Cuda for a loaf of bread and a chocolate croissant.
Then onto Lumahai West.
It's a hight surf which has sculpted a ten foot shelf where we sit chasing patches of sun. Pilgrim digs a hole in the cool sand.
Hunger calls and we drive to Black Pot where Pat sells fish tacos. Mmm we buy three and a cream cheese jalapeno quesadilla.  We have lunch at home :)
We hand out at the Cliffs again, watching for whales. . . No sightings.
But this pretty egret which looks like a SuzyG original inspiration.
Then it's time for Yoga. Pilgrim can't sit stll (it is Hot!) so Dan keeps him and snaps a few pictures.
Taloosie says:
Rest on the oceans waves
Feel the sun kiss you
Allow the tickle of the birds song
Enjoy the caress of each breeze!
